Winter Storms 2021/22
The winter of 2021/22 will go down in the memory in Aberdeenshire for storms and high winds.
It all started with Storm Arwen at the end of November. The unusual wind direction, and ferocity of the winds, felled entire forests that had been standing for 80 years or more. And when the trees came down so did the power lines. Many residents woke on the morning of 25th to find themselves without electricity or telephones. Often, access to their houses was blocked by fallen trees.
This was what greeted residents at their house beside Kingshill Forest.
Which was good news for tree surgeons, but not much anybody else!
The tree team at Eastland Foresters moved into action to assist customers as soon as it was safe to do so. We cut trees clear of roads and driveways, and cleared gardens of fallen trees and debris.
Our priority was to attend first to trees which were dangerous or at risk of further damaging property.
Nigel even came out of tree cutting retirement to help!
We were still working through the list of requests for help, when Storms Malik and Corrie hit us at the end of January.
Once again, these vicious storms brought down large numbers of trees, both in forests and residential areas. Many trees had been exposed or weakened by the earlier Storm Arwen.
The beginning of summer saw us still working through the jobs, trying to complete each one to our usual high standard.
Thanks to our customers for their understanding and patience with this.
At least the wood-burners of Aberdeenshire will be kept fed for many years to come!
