The environment

care for the environment - habitats
We care for the environment and try to reduce pollution in all our business activities.

All our representatives have an interest in the environment. Staff are trained in care for the environment and can recommend actions that will mitigate any damage caused while undertaking tree works.

Compliance with the “Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981” and the “Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000” are of paramount importance. We work closely with NatureScot (formerly Scottish Natural Heritage) and Forestry & Land Scotland and Scottish Forestry.

care for the environment - bats
Bats

Bats are protected, so in compliance with the European Habitat Directives, prior to tree works commencing, we will assess the trees to ascertain if any bats are present or if the trees have potential for bats to roost or hibernate in them.

If we find evidence that trees are being used by bats, works may be postponed or mitigation measures put in place before works commence.

For more information, visit the Bat Conservation Trust.

care for the environment - birds
Nesting Birds

Eastland Foresters representatives will assess trees to be worked on or felled to ensure that there are no nesting birds.

If the tree surgeons find nesting birds at any time during the works, findings must be reported immediately. Then we will arrange for appropriate action to be taken to protect the nests.

More information can be found at NatureScot or the RSPB.

assessments and supervision
Assessments and Surveys

We carry out initial assessments, which may include aerial inspections, to determine the best way to carry out any proposed works in order to protect the woodland habitat and the creatures that live in it.

Qualified persons will be on site while the works are undertaken to ensure minimum disruption to the environment.

environment - chainsaw oil
Chainsaw Oil

In sensitive environments special 2-stroke oil is used to reduce the amount of pollution from our chainsaws.

We may also use a blend of vegetable oil, which is used to lubricate the chain. Both oils are biodegradable.

firewood
Timber and Wood Chip

Large timber can be converted into planks using our mobile sawmill.

We process other logs into usable firewood and smaller pieces are broken down into wood chip for composting or mulch (available for purchase).

We undertake to remove all debris from sites and leave them in a tidy condition.
